HIGHLY COMMENDED
The artwork depicts the type of a sailing vessel used by the early missionaries to sail to Mer after their arrival at Erub on 1st July 1871. The name of the vessel was ‘Surprise’ and, to my understanding, it was used to transport missionaries to various island communities including PNG coastal villages – Buzi to Mouth of Fly River.
